UK Money Guides: Cashback, Travel Fees and Better Banking Decisions
Keep more of the money you already spend. Start with a planned purchase, an upcoming trip or an account you want to change, then compare the full cost and the conditions.
Make cashback count
A cashback percentage is only useful when the final price still makes sense. Compare delivery, discounts, membership deductions and the possibility that cashback will not be paid.
Know your travel-money costs
Wise is our starting point for international money needs. Check the conversion quote and cash withdrawals for your trip, rather than assuming a travel card has no costs.

A simple order for your next money move
- Choose one task. A purchase, a trip or a bank change gives you a decision you can finish.
- Get the ordinary price first. Compare the same product, dates or service before introducing rewards.
- Read the qualification steps. A headline reward can depend on a new-account definition, an approved transaction or a completed switch.
- Calculate the net benefit. Subtract fees and spending you would not otherwise make. Keep pending rewards separate from money available to withdraw.
- Keep the evidence. Save the applicable terms and your confirmation. Record deadlines so you can check the outcome.
Considering a UK bank switch?
Start with the account’s ongoing features: bill payments, access to cash, fees and any overdraft you need. A one-off reward should not compensate for a setup that makes everyday banking harder.
The Current Account Switch Service is free and covers eligible switches between participating providers. It moves regular payments and your balance in seven working days; the old account closes. Account opening and the bank’s checks are separate from that switching timetable.
Before applying, write down the offer’s application and switch deadlines, required deposits or Direct Debits, previous-customer restrictions and payout date. These are offer-specific conditions: using the Switch Service does not itself entitle you to a bank bonus.
Check both providers on the participating-bank list and use the official switching questions for details about joint accounts, overdrafts and payments. Savings accounts and ISAs are outside this service.
UK rules and Australian rules are different
This section is written for UK residents and uses UK product terms. The main MoneyHackHQ library remains focused on Australia. Australian bank invitations, local survey eligibility and Australian Wise fees should not be carried across to a UK decision.
If you live in Australia, begin with our Australian guide library. If you are a UK resident travelling to Australia, your card’s issuing region still matters: visiting a country does not automatically change your account’s fees or eligibility.
Choose your next step
- Compare a planned purchase with and without cashback.
- Estimate Wise card, conversion and ATM costs for a trip.
- Check the official UK current-account switching process.
