ShopBack vs TopCashback Australia: Offers, Tracking and Real Savings
Use the platform that gives the best eligible deal on a purchase you already planned. A higher cashback percentage or signup bonus only helps if the purchase tracks, meets the exclusions and becomes payable.
Quick verdict: compare ShopBack and TopCashback for the exact retailer, product and customer category before checkout. Keep both as options; neither wins every basket. Compare the final price after delivery, vouchers and eligible cashback.

Current signup offers and their catches
TopCashback: referral offer versus a separate affiliate promotion
The official Australian referral terms currently specify a $20 signup bonus. Join as a new member through a valid referral link and earn at least $10 in eligible cashback within 180 days. The qualifying cashback must reach payable status before the reward is payable. Some brands are excluded from qualification.
TopCashback also advertises other promotions with different amounts and spending tests. A separate $25 affiliate promotion is not evidence that our personal TopCashback referral link provides $25. Confirm the terms shown when you join; these offers generally cannot be stacked.
ShopBack: read your invitation before joining
ShopBack’s referral help distinguishes its regular referral program from creator campaigns. The regular program describes a new friend earning at least $20 in cashback within 180 days, excluding bonuses. A creator signup offer can have a different $10 cashback test. Use the conditions actually attached to your signup invitation rather than mixing the two.
Refunded or cancelled purchases do not count. Check the reward amount, eligible merchants, confirmation deadline and withdrawal requirements in the app. Do not make an unwanted purchase just to qualify.
Which deal is really cheaper?
Calculate item price + delivery − eligible discount − confirmed cashback. Exclude uncertain signup rewards from your guaranteed saving.
| Illustrative option | Pay today | Potential cost after cashback |
|---|---|---|
| Store A: $100 item, free delivery, 5% cashback on the eligible $100 | $100 | $95 if the $5 cashback is approved |
| Store B: same item for $96, free delivery, no cashback | $96 | $96 |
| Store A plus $8 delivery | $108 | $103 if the same $5 cashback is approved |
In the first comparison, you risk tracking and wait for payment to save $1 over Store B. Once delivery is added, the apparently attractive 5% offer costs $7 more. Cashback cannot rescue a poor underlying price.
Before you click: a tracking checklist
- Read the category rate. New and existing customers, sale items, gift cards and product categories can have different rates.
- Check vouchers. Use only voucher codes the cashback offer permits. An unlisted code can invalidate the reward.
- Start from the cashback platform. Activate the offer and complete checkout as directed, without clicking another cashback or affiliate link afterwards.
- Follow the tracking instructions. Ad blockers, restrictive cookies, browser changes or app handoffs can affect attribution; use the platform’s current guidance.
- Keep evidence. Save the order confirmation, activation time and offer conditions. Note the tracking enquiry deadline.
- Wait for approval. A pending amount is not yet spendable money. Returns, cancellations and retailer checks can change it.
What if cashback fails to track?
Check the platform’s stated tracking delay before submitting a missing-cashback enquiry. Include the order number, date, eligible purchase value and evidence requested. Do not post payment-card details in a public comment. Approval depends on the retailer and offer; a support enquiry does not guarantee payment.
How to use both without overspending
Put the item on a shopping list first, compare its normal price, then check both platforms. Buy only if the full price is acceptable even if cashback fails. Before travel bookings, also compare cancellation terms and the direct price. A cheaper non-refundable booking can be worse value if your plans change.
Gift-card cashback adds a separate risk: funds are committed to that retailer. Check expiry, refunds and whether cashback applies to the gift-card purchase or redemption; do not assume both qualify.
Common questions
Can I claim both platforms on one purchase?
Generally you need to use one attribution route. Clicking a second platform after activating the first can replace the tracking. Read the retailer terms.
When can I withdraw?
When the reward is approved and your account meets the current withdrawal requirements. Check the available methods and minimum in the platform.
Are cashback rates fixed?
No. Rates can change and can differ by product, customer status, exclusions and limited promotions.
Is TopCashback’s referral bonus $25?
Its standard Australian referral terms currently describe $20 after $10 qualifying cashback. A separate $25 affiliate promotion has different conditions. Read the offer attached to the link used at signup.
