3. Kraken: a large global exchange

Kraken is one of the longest-running crypto exchanges in the world, with Kraken Pro available if you later want more advanced trading tools. Its referral bonus is a fixed $20 in your default currency once you meet the deposit and trading requirement. The exact deposit and trade amounts are set in the Kraken app and shown on screen when you sign up.

1. Open the referral link on your phone and sign up in the Kraken app. Signing up on the website doesn’t count.
2. Verify your account.
3. Deposit cash. Debit and credit card deposits don’t count towards the bonus.
4. Trade the amount shown in the app within 30 days. Stablecoin trades and bundles don’t count.

Good to know: Kraken’s referral page advertises “up to $100”, but the payout described in its help centre is $20. Go by the amount shown in your app before you deposit.

4. Crypto.com: the biggest possible bonus

Australia sits in Crypto.com’s Tier 2, where the bonus depends on how much you trade in your first 30 days after your ID is approved. You and the person who referred you get the same amount, up to a maximum of US$65 each:

There’s also a separate US$25 bonus each if you stake CRO or take out the Level Up Pro annual plan to reserve a metal Crypto.com Visa card. That one costs money to unlock, so only consider it if you wanted the card anyway.

Good to know: trading US$5,000 to earn US$65 only makes sense if you were going to trade that much anyway. Fees and price swings on that volume can easily cost more than the bonus.

5. Bybit: for experienced traders only

Bybit’s current referral reward is tied to Bybit Alpha, its on-chain trading product. If you trade at least 200 USDT on Bybit Alpha within seven days of signing up, you and the person who referred you each get 5 USDT, credited to the Rewards Hub within 10 days.

Good to know: Bybit is an offshore exchange, not an Australian one, and some of its products, such as xStocks, aren’t open to Australians. The bonus is small for the trading it requires, so it’s only worth it if you already use Bybit. Our Bybit Australia review covers the trade-offs.
